Another day passed and I didn't use #Algebra #maths again ??

This was on a wall post on Facebook. In fact we use Maths everyday in most things we do.
Now you have set the challenge, I have to think of something in everyday life where you use algebra.

You have to tile your kitchen you have measured the total space. 5 metres. Each tile is 50cm, So how many tiles do you need. 50 x a = 500.  a= 500/50, a =10 tiles.
We use maths everyday with out even realizing it.

You go to the Myer stocktaking sale which I went to last week. It says 40% off the already reduced 50% off price $30. I can work this out quick smart. I know that 50% is half $15. Then to work out 40%; I work out 10% first and times it by 4. $1.50 x 4 =$6.

The one thing you will never use is trigonometry, those triangles sin cos and tan. I am sure someone who designs playgrounds i.e. swings would use it everyday.

How to read a graph. We use this anytime we try and read a bus or train timetable.

You kids are arguing over one piece of chocolate cake. Ok lets cut in half.
The electricity bill, phone bills comes in. Pay them and subtract them from your total savings. Make you money go further stick to a budget.

Credit card comes in pay it off in full each month or you will be paying 20 % on the it.

All the time we are bombarded with sale signs, so if we keep saying,  "I hate maths !" We will become very poor indeed.

.

I love maths and find it very useful!

Fast get up and go technique

#Fast get up and go technique- #How to get out of the house fast. #curly, natural hair #afro hair #surfer hair #coloured hair # swimming pool hair

This youtube video has a good demonstration of how to look do your hair fast.

  1. Shower and detangle in the shower with fingers. Use a conditioner in the hair to do this and add slip and moisture. For naturally curly hair use fingers. For surfer, swimming pool, or colour treated hair you can use a wide tooth comb. My daughter is too young to do this on her own at this stage. I usually do all her detangling after the shower.
  2. For curly, afro hair use eco gel. Do it in sections to define curls and stop frizzy , flyaways. I need to track down some of this to try it.

How to dry your hair- towel

How to dry your hair- towel dry + detangling

100 % knots out.

Towel drying roughs up the cuticles in the hair shaft and causes more tangling!
Simply place a towel and wrap it over your head. Leave it there for a few minutes.
Microfibre towels are brilliant at absorbing water. I will have a look if I can find any  of these to put up for you.

You can gently pat your hair with your towel to catch the extra water, but do not rub or roughen the hair to dry it.
Try not to use any heated styling tools or hair dryers, let it air dry!

Curly Hair Never "Fully" Detangles

I just read that you can never fully detangle curly afro hair! Wow this is a real revelation. I needed to read this! When I comb and separate my daughter's hair I am aiming for every single strand to be knot free. I think to myself if I have more time I will do a better job. So now I know if there are some knotty parts its ok to leave them and just work on them another day. I just thought I wasn't doing a good enough job. So, its really an unreal expectation to have all the knots out. Thats why if I think back I have hardly ever achieved it. The only times are when I have been determined to do a 2 twist hair plats or braids all over her hair. This seriously took about 2 hours to achieve.
The below extract comes from the site naturallycurly.com.
One last thing to take into consideration before your next detangling session is: that our hair never fully detangles. Our kinks, coils, and curls looooooove each other so much that they'd rather buddy up together than remain apart. This is the main reason why many naturals wash and detangle their hair in sections, and twist or braid each section up as they go along. So even if after 2 hours your hair isn't 100% tangle-free, that's okay. We're never going to get each and every single tangle out of our hair -- it is an impossible task. So save yourself some time, a few broken hairs, and a heap of conditioner by aiming to have your hair between 80 and 90% detangled each time.
Hallelujah, I have seen the light!

How dry is your hair? Surfer, Coloured Hair, Swimming pool, beach lover- Moisture Moisture Moisture

How dry is your hair? Porous

  • Damaged from colouring!
  • Damaged from salt water, ocean surfing and swimming! How I love going to the beach.
  • Damaged from sunshine! How we love the sun.
  • Damaged from swimming pool water- chlorine!

This is the link to the website:
How dry is your hair- porous?

Hair Porosity: Help for Dry, Damaged Hair

Porosity refers to the hair’s ability, or inability, to absorb water or chemicals deep into the cuticle layers and cortex. All hair is naturally porous and somewhat permeable to water.

The following questions will help you determine whether or not your hair is overly porous:Does your hair continuously soak in moisture without ever actually feeling moisturized?
Is your hair chronically dry despite your best conditioning efforts?
Does your hair appear/feel puffy, frizzy, swollen, or tough to the touch?
Does your hair have a natural, reddish toned cast to it that is usually more pronounced in spring and summer time?

If you've answered yes to any of the above hair characteristics, and these characteristics appear more pronounced toward the ends of your hair, you may have a problem with your hair’s porosity level.

Causes of Porosity Problems
There are two main conditions that aggravate the physical integrity of the cuticle layer, and thus, the hair’s porosity level.

The first is soundness of each cuticle scale along the hair strand. The soundness of the cuticle scales refers to the smoothness of each individual hair scale surface. Weak or damaged scales are often worn, cracked, and may even have holes in them. The more damaged an individual scale is, the more porous that scale will be.

The second is the general spatial arrangement of the cuticle scales relative to one another. Lifted scales are porous simply because they are not lying flat against the others. They will let moisture out easily. The unavoidable constant lifting and closing of the cuticle layers over time through regular washing, conditioning, and chemical processing increases the overall porosity of the hair. The ends of the hair are typically the most porous because the cuticle layers in this region have simply been opening and closing the longest. If the individual scales are porous, and the scales are lifted up and away from one another, the porosity situation is compounded.____

So what exactly damages the cuticles in those ways?

  1. heat abuse, and heat styling tools,
  2. the sun, over processing from chemical relaxers and permanent colors,
  3. and the continued use of sodium lauryl or ammonium lauryl sulfate-rich shampoos. Check your shampoo labels nearly all supermarket shampoos have this chemical foaming agent. It also used in dishwashing liquid so its very drying.
  4. Swimming in chlorine pools : Chlorine weakens the hair by forming distinctive sacs or bubbles of dissolved protein which burst through the cuticle . . . forming splits and cracks. Making the hair very dry. The salt that is left behind on the hair from the chlorinated water dries into hard crystals which also degrade the cuticle. Always shower off after swimming in pool water. Better yet, drench your hair in conditioner prior to entering the water so that the hair is already saturated and pool water enters less. Also when you go home wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.

I actually use a supermarket shampoo to clean my tiles in my bathroom shower, as it is a cleaner. Also it smells great and I don't have to deal with the smell of bleach.

Is the sulfate in your moisturizing shampoo the Laureth or Lauryl version?
If you must use a sulfate-based moisturizing shampoo, remember that the “laureth” version of the sulfate detergent is always easier on the hair than “lauryl” version. If you are choosing between a moisturizing shampoo with sodium laureth sulfate and a moisturizing shampoo with sodium lauryl sulfate, go with the sodium LAURETH sulfate moisturizing shampoo. This one will be more moisturizing. Sodium myreth and trideceth sulfates are some of the gentler sulfate derivatives, so a moisturizing shampoo with these in the formula will be fairly moisturizing depending on the rest of the ingredients in the formula.

_______

Porosity Problems for the Relaxed and Color Treated

Relaxing or coloured treating the hair with chemicals forces the cuticle layers up and open. Relaxing hair for those who don't know. Is when you straighten afro curly hair. Unfortunately, when this happens, these chemical treatments increase the porosity of the hair by both means: by degrading the cuticle layers and causing them to lift dramatically. In time, the cuticle layers do eventually close on their own, but if the damage is repeated too often by either back to back coloring jobs, heat overuse, or relaxing too frequently those cuticle layers may never close fully again. For this reason, relaxed and color treated individuals should be extra diligent about managing their hair’s porosity.

This means you need lots of moisture. Products that add moisture and protect the hair. Moisture, Moisture ( not protein conditioners)

  1. Selecting a Moisturizing Conditioner

While water-based moisturizers boost your daily moisture, they cannot touch the conditioning power of today’s moisturizing deep conditioners. Moisturizing deep conditioners are no doubt the backbone of any healthy hair regimen. Many moisturizing deep conditioners also contain some protein. Wheat and silk proteins are the most common gentle proteins in moisturizing deep conditioners. They tend to be extremely gentle and actually enhance the hair’s elasticity by helping moisture bind within the cuticle. So, if you see this kind of protein in your moisturizing deep conditioner its fine.

The infusion of moisture and increase in washing and deep conditioning frequency stops the breakage and gets their hair growing and healthy.
_______________

So what should you be looking for in a moisturizing deep conditioner?

1.) Fatty alcohols   When looking at moisturizing deep conditioners, you really want a conditioner with lots of “fat” in it. Okay, what do I mean by fat? You need a moisturizing deep conditioner that contains lots of fatty alcohols. Fatty alcohols are “hair friendly” alcohols, unlike the alcohols found in finishing sprays which are often drying to the hair. Common fatty alcohols are ones like cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, and myristyl alcohol.

2.) Humectants, Emollients, and Conditioning Agents   Humectants are substances that draw moisture from the surrounding air to the hair. Common humectants, emollients, and conditioning agents you want in your moisturizing deep conditioner are propylene glycol, sodium lactate, sodium PCA, hydantoin, glycerin, polyquaternium, glyceryl stearate, cetrimonium chloride, and other natural waxes and oils.

3.) Silicones   Saying this tends to get the side-eye from many hair conscious critics, but it is something that works well for many, many people. Silicones have gotten a bad reputation in many healthy hair care circles as scalp clogging, hair-coating, plastic-like, moisture defeaters. However, not all “cones” are bad and many are quite useful. “Cones” actually help with your ability to effectively detangle your wet hair. A great moisturizing deep conditioner may contain a silicone or two and work excellently.Now. If the ingredient list on your moisturizing deep conditioner reads like this: water, cone, cone, cone, cone, cone…. we’d need to reevaluate the purpose of this product. A conditioner whose ingredient list reads this way is not deep moisturizing your hair. It is merely applying layers of slick silicones to the cuticle, giving you an awesome shine and making your hair a dream to detangle. Unfortunately, such a conditioner will eventually lead to dryness from a lack of moisture being deposited within the strand. If you use a conditioner like this, use it as a final conditioning rinse after you've already gotten your main moisturizing deep conditioning done. Some “cones” leave more ‘breathable’ layers on your hair than others. Amodimethicone and Cyclo-____ (any kind of ‘cone’) are the most stubborn “cones” to remove from the hair shaft. These “cones” often need to be completely clarified away. If your moisturizing deep conditioner is silicone heavy, you should consider clarifying the hair at least once or twice per month. If you are conditioner-washing your hair regularly (or washing the hair without shampoo). You should use a conditioner in the shower and wash through on every shower, especially coloured treated, surfer and swimming pool hair.
You probably won’t want to deal with too many silicone-rich products. Without your shampoo there to assist with removal, they can build up on the hair and lead to dryness.

I am doing this very technical post about shampoo and conditioners for myself, and anyone else who wants to understand more. I will therefore know what to look for when I select my products I offer for sale. As you know I trail every single product on myself and my daughter, to ensure it works for both of us. My daughter who is the inspiration of this blog, has very curly, afro, long hair. I have coloured wavy hair. Both of us surf and swim, and we are always at the beach in the sunshine. We love the beach and we want to protect our hair. My quest to find something that works for my daughter, has extended to myself - To find great hair products.
I have had alot of problems with hair breakage and dryness being a surfer most of my life. Now I am starting to go grey too, so I have started getting colour put in my hair. Half a head of foils: blonde and caramel. The blonde is very prone to breakage. It also goes lighter in the sunshine and salt water.
By following my routine we now both have nicer hair and in better condition.

Better Hair Routine - Stronger, more moisture and less breakage.

  1. In the shower, put conditioner in the middle and ends. Sukin is good for this as it is all natural and can use it more then once per day with no problems. I sell this email me on eagle098@gmail.com SALE Hair products that work. It also is available in larger bottles 1 litre and 500 ml bottles. Also my shea butter product Everyday Shea  Moisturising conditioner is another great natural product available in a 1 litre bottle in a pump pack. This makes it easy to apply. This is good for all hair that seeks moisture. That is anyone live in a hot beach climate.
  2. Wash hair less often, when it feels oily with my wavy hair. For afro curly hair when it is goes very dry and knotty. After swimming in a chlorinated swimming pool as it is so drying all those smelly chemicals they put in the water.
  3. For afro curly hair, shower first then detangle with a leave in conditioning product. The Oasis Moisturising Hair Food with sunscreen is excellent for this. I sell this on my page. Awesome hair products that work. I have other detailed posts how to detangle this lovely hair.

  4. Try not to use any heated appliances, let it dry naturally.

Camping Hair ahh!!

Camping hair ahh!!

We went camping it was great to get away and do it. Its my kids first camping trip ever. I went for a walk one early early morning and spotted this huge vintage tent in a garage sale. Wow I we can stand up in it. Heres a picture. Ok it has so many different poles we had no idea how to get it up. It was about 10am, so to avoid going home without a holiday. I walked around the campsite to try and find a similar tent.
I found  some people with a camper trailer. It was old school. Luckily these nice 5 guys from Brisbane came over, between all of us we got it up. They were very kind to help us. Thank you good Karma is coming your way.
We were only away for 3 days, I didn't do my daughters hair thoroughly. Being away and on holiday in a tent park, isn't conducive to hair styling. Also going to the beach everyday salt water is very drying on the hair and the skin. Moisturise both.
When we arrived home I had a good look at her hair we are talking chunky dreadlocks , big knotty parts , ahh !!! What to do?? This called for extra action!

Extreme Measure - knotty dreadlocked hair

I with my wavy straight hair also had to call for extreme measure, when I was a kid. I was sick for about a week and I didn't brush my hair. I remember my Mum had to take to me to the hairdresser. These 2 hairdressers worked for hours to get my knots out.

With afro hair this happens in one day if its not combed through properly. What do do:
  1. I put some Sukin hair conditioner in her hair, in the shower. I sell this for only $16 for 500ml + postage. SHOP hair products that work. Sukin Moisturizing conditioner As she is little I have to assist here. I am trying to get her to at least put some products in her hair on her own and to help.

  1. Massage it in to the ends and mid lengths. Use your fingers to try and separate the knots. You do this by gently pulling little bits of hair off the knotty parts. If it hurts try a piece of hair from the other angle. Do this for a few minutes only as it will waste too much water. You can leave some conditioner in.

  1. Once she is out, Just place a towel wrap on the head to absorb the water. Microfibre or just a normal one. Don't wring it As this makes it more knotty.

  1. Add more product to her hair. Here use the Oasis Hair Food. Which I sell for $20. It smells so good and it is a good think combing cream. It has sunscreen in it to further protect your hair. SHOP products that work. Oasis Hair Food. Now you start at the front and work through section by section adding product, gentle using your fingers to separate the knots, and then combing it through with a wide tooth comb - which I also sell.
Gorgeous hair is back! No more screaming from both of us.

Fun with birds, Rosie Rainbow Happy Easter Feliz Pascua

Happy Easter - Feliz Pascua
Rosie Rainbow

Having fun at the shops- awesome parents room.

We had to go shopping, then the inevitable visit to the bathroom, well look what we found this gorgeous painted parents room. Its at Burleigh Stocklands Shopping Centre Gold Coast Australia, where a new Aldi just opened. We had lots of fun taking pics with the gorgeous paintings on the wall. In case you parents have never ventured into a parents room. These are rooms with change tables , microwaves and breast feeding rooms. They usually have a toilet which has a small one for the child and larger one for the adult. When we visited there was noone there either and this one was brand new. Worth a trip to shop with the kids just to see it.
My daughter is loving her hair now, and often will ask to wear it out. We get amazing responses from people we don't know, giving her compliments,
" I wish had had curls like that"
" How do you look after it?"
" Can I touch it?" She usually says, " No". As it mucks up her hair.

This hairstyle is 2 side double strand twists and then put back in a pony tale, keeps the hair neatly in place.

My son the Athlete

Here he is with his 6 metals he won from Nippers, he is very fast.
Since I started this adventure selling lovely hair products. My son says her is going to grow his fro. for one year! Awesome can't wait to see it. Now he is actually old enough to comb it. With his hair he is able to use the traditional afro comb, where my daughter's hair so long it needs a wide tooth comb.

My kids are ready for the World Cup Soccer. Here they have Fuleco the official world cup mascot he is an armadillo and a Brazilian Teddy.

Our bird - Eclectus Parrot - Ruby Tuesday

As its Easter and all things colourful I thought I would share our bird with you.
She is the easiest and least expensive pet ever. She only eats wild bird seed- its very cheap from Currumbin Stock Feeds. Also supplement her diet with fruit and veges. She likes some fruit and veg and not others, she love nuts and popcorn. Frozen peas are another favourite.

She is funny, talks when she feels like it, will come out with whole sentences.
loves to peck, she is still scared of the hand, Hopefully she will calm down after a few more years. They apparently live 60 or 70 years.
Here I gave her a frangipani flower and she loved it. I will have to bring her some more of these.

Her is Ruby going for a walk in the toy trolley.
These holidays have been so warm, we have been doing lots of swimming in the ocean and the swimming pool. So this has meant lots of products are need to protect our hair. Before we go in the sun and surf we spread in some Oasis Hair food leave in conditioner with sunscreen. This is a lovely scented thick product, that stays well in your hair.
Also when we get home we put some Sukin Conditioner or Everyday Shea through the hair at shower time. Also all these products can be left in the hair to use for detangling and moisturising the hair. I sell all of these so have a look at my site and then drop me an email eagle098@gmail.com
